Steve Campbell, NC State, “Who’s in control here?”

March 23, 2017 | 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

Control theory is an important topic in applied mathematics that is used in a number of disciplines. Its theoretical foundations involve several areas of mathematics. It is also a topic that is less well known at the undergraduate level. In this talk we will explain what control theory is and give several elementary examples of specific kinds of control problems. Control theorists also approach a number of mathematical questions differently then is typically done in an undergraduate mathematics course and this will be commented on. Come to probably the only talk in which you will see both sea turtles and a low thrust lunar orbit insertion.
