Remembering Tom Banks
H. Thomas Banks, Distinguished University Professor, LeRoy B. Martin, Jr. Distinguished Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Research in Scientific Computation, passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, December 31st at home with family and friends after a two month battle with a malignant brain tumor.

Three Mathematics staff have received a Pride of the Wolfpack Award for 2019: John Craig, Andrea Hayes Pennix, and Seyma Shabbir. Also nominated for this award were Di Bucklad, Jennifer Burt, Carolyn Gunton, and Georgia Webb.

Every year, a team of Mathematics undergrads competes in the William Lowell Putnam competition, run by the Mathematical Association of America. The 2019 NCSU team came in very strong, ranking 61 out of 488 competing teams from the US and Canada, that is, ranking in the 87th percentile. NCSU has increased its ranking in this competition in each of the past 3 years.
