Actuarial Science Club

Actuarial Science Club at NC State is looking for individuals interested in developing their understanding of financial concepts and the field of risk management. Our focus this semester is building resumes tailored to actuarial positions, making study plans for the preliminary examinations, and to hosting companies both locally and across the country. They hope to support you in your actuarial journey while enrolled at NC State, and two of their members have passed examinations since joining the club! Applied Math Graduate Student Association

The Applied Math Grad Student Seminar (AMGSS) is an opportunity for graduate students to give presentations in a low-pressure environment. These talks are typically progress reports on thesis research, and are often practice talks for conferences or oral examinations. Also included are reports and discussion from workshops, summer schools and internship experiences. Students get a chance to practice presenting (and listening to) talks by their peers and department faculty.

Association for Women in Mathematics

AWM The purpose of the Association for Women in Mathematics is to encourage women & girls to study and to have active careers in the mathematical sciences, & to promote equal opportunity and the equal treatment of women in the mathematical sciences. Each year, they host Sonia Kovalevsky Day (SK Day), a day of workshops, talks, and problem-solving with 7th and 8th-grade girls in nearby middle schools. AWM aims to encourage young women to continue their studies in mathematics and embrace their inner nerds. Learn more.

Mathematics Graduate Student Association

The Mathematics Graduate Student Association (MGSA) represents and provides resources to students in the mathematics, applied mathematics and financial mathematics graduate programs at NC State. MGSA also provides professional and social programs for math graduate students. Learn more.

American Mathematical Society (AMS) Student Chapter

The AMS Student Chapter aims to further mathematics scholarship and research, with particular emphasis on communicating mathematics graduate student research, helping new mathematics graduate students adjust to graduate life, and helping NC State math grad students navigate the job market. Society for Undergraduate Mathematics (SUM) Club

The SUM Club is a student organization for students passionate about mathematics. They connect math undergrads and provide students with academic and professional development, leadership, and service opportunities. This is accomplished through social and outreach activities, presentations at meetings, career events, and other college and university-wide involvement. Open to any student, math major or otherwise, SUM club meets on Thursdays at 6 pm to get to know one another, do math puzzles, play games, learn together, and perform outreach. Seminar Series for SUM (Society for Undergraduate Mathematics)

Organized by Dr. Erik Bates and Dr. Tye Lidman, the SUM Series features weekly informal talks on mathematical topics for an undergraduate audience. Check out the future dates, speakers, title and abstract in the SUM Series. Join the mailing list to receive announcements before each event.

Undergrads Union Grads

UUG (mentoring and events). Mentoring is made up of short, informal meetings on a monthly basis. Undergraduates can talk about their current courses, goals, or professional experiences with their graduate mentors. Email: [email protected].

Disabled Students in Mathematics

Disabled Students in Mathematics at NC State is a leading by a new mathematical student,  Dylan Fergusen. He described the mission of his club as follows: “This is a student org aiming to be by and for us, disabled students in mathematics. I believe there’s a unique experience that comes from studying math while disabled, since ours is a field that demands rapid learning but centers said learning entirely around the mind—but that’s not reflective of what being a student with both body and mind is like, nor are our minds all the same. My hope is to create a space where we (and allies) can explore and advocate for our identities, engage in conversations about accessibility in math, and ultimately build a unique community to support one another.” Email SUM Club at [email protected]  to learn more.

Data Science Club

Data Science Club at NC State highlights interdisciplinary applications of data science. Supported by the Data Science Academy, the club hosts a variety of programming for students with an interest in data from all majors and skill levels. Sports Analytics Club

Sports Analytics Club at NC State is a student-run organization committed to the quantitative analysis of sports strategy and management. This club is open to all students and faculty members of NC State. The club encourages and enables students to share ideas and complete research projects on any topic related to sports statistics. They meet weekly on Wednesdays at 6 pm in SAS Hall Room 2229. They host statistical programming tutorials, trivia, and guest speakers from throughout the industry, all while collaborating on personal projects to share at the end of the semester. Stat Club

Stat Club aims to expose people to the endless applications of statistics and what a career in statistics looks like by bringing in guest speakers from industry and academia. This is also a great way for members to network with industry professionals, NC State faculty, and other statistics majors. Our meetings also consist of workshops to hone your marketability when applying for internships and opportunities. You should join if you are interested in statistics or related professions or want to meet and socialize with other statistics lovers. Biostatistics and Biomathematics Society

Biostatistics and Biomathematics Society at NC State (BBS) is a student organization for students seeking exposure to or deeper engagement in biostatistics and biomathematics. Throughout the semester, they hope to host panels, provide information on academic and career paths, and conduct our own epidemiological study through a fun disease-modeling game. BBS is open to any student, whether they are a math major, a statistics major, or simply interested in exploring biostatistics and/or biomathematics.
