The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will host the 14th Annual UNCG Regional Mathematics and Statistics Conference on Saturday, November 3, 2018. We would like to invite your undergraduate and graduate students to come and share their research experience with students from other regional institutions. This invitation also extends to faculty mentors, especially those involved in research with students, to come and exchange ideas with other faculty mentors.
The conference will feature contributed undergraduate and graduate research talks (about 15 minutes in length) on any topic in mathematics or statistics. Talks in mathematical biology, computational mathematics, biostatistics, and statistical techniques are particularly welcome.
Professor Suzanne Weekes (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) will deliver a plenary talk “Mathematical Modeling in Cancer Research”.
This conference will also feature a panel on Careers in mathematics and faculty development workshop focused on training faculty in mentoring undergraduate researchers led by Dr. Dewey Taylor (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Dr. Chad Awtrey (Elon University).
The registration is free and open to all participants – high school, undergraduate and graduate students, high school teachers, and faculty. A modest support for students to cover transportation and local expenses is available. Preference will be given to those who give talks at the conference.
The deadline for registration and abstract submission is October 12, 2018.
Funding for this conference is provided by the NSF (DMS – 1632179), the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UNCG and Elon University’s Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon.
Please share the attached printable flyer with your colleagues and students. We are looking forward to seeing you and/or your students/colleagues at the conference.
