xciting Service Learning Fall Class: COM 466 nonprofit leadership & development

COM 466 enrolls 2nd-semester freshmen through grad students and folks from every college on campus in a high impact, interactive and practical leadership and service-learning semester.  The course is a requirement for the Nonprofit Minor but also serves as an elective class for concentrations in:

Political Science, Accounting, PRT Management, Social Work, The Leadership Minor, and Communication among others.
Students work individually and in teams to build capacity in one of 15 local pre-screened nonprofit agencies giving 30 hours of service over the entire semester.
Last year’s students raised over $60,000 for these agencies through their direct service efforts.  Volunteer hours time schedules are negotiated and agreed upon by the student and their sponsoring Community Partner.  There are no tests, only four short papers and several journal entries, a debate and a final presentation!    Many students get jobs and internships from this class and our alumni in the sector. More details and class expectations are attached.  Our class facebook page link is also provided for more information.
