Duke’s Economics MA Programs

These are terminal degrees which offer students the opportunity to prepare for PhD programs and industry careers in many fields. We welcome students with varied backgrounds and strong quantitative abilities who may wish to add depth to their economics skillset.

Here are some highlights:

  • Our programs have a strong focus on preparing and placing students in PhD programs. We have placed more than 300 students in a broad range of top PhD programs since 2012. We also have an excellent non-academic placement record that can be checked here.
  • Our master’s students can take PhD level courses while at Duke and many have the opportunity to work as research assistants with Duke faculty. We provide close advising and mentoring to guide them through their PhD applications and/or job search processes.
  • The program can be tailored to meet individual needs: students can take advanced mathematics, statistics, and computer sciences courses for credit. They eventually pursue further graduate work and careers in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, Tech, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Environmental Science, Health Policy, and others.
  • Students can join Zoom information sessions throughout the fall to learn more about our programs and ask any questions that they might have. Links to the sessions are included in the flyer.

We would greatly appreciate it if you would share this information and the attached flyer with students who might be interested in our programs. This offer extends to sophomores and juniors who might be interested in a master’s or doctorate upon graduation: we would be glad to engage with such students well in advance.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
