Bridge to the Doctorate Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

If you are a student with a 3.5 GPA or above, who do not meet the criteria for the Bridges to the doctorate program but are interested in graduate studies, we have some special funding for them, we ask that you go to this link (https://ncat.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0jGWPlTCITihC3I) and have them complete the survey.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has been awarded a Louis Stokes Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) grant for 2022-2024. We are currently seeking BD applications from eligible underrepresented minority students planning on applying to STEM Ph.D. programs at N.C. A&T for the Fall 2023 semester.

The LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate Program at N.C. A&T will support 12 Ph.D. students in their first two years of study.  Each participant will receive a support package that covers a stipend of $32,000 and up to $12,000 towards educational expenses, per year and  for two years. Participants will also receive funding for subsequent years in the Ph.D. program.    

 Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must have participated in a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program as an undergraduate. Program participation/certification will be confirmed with the BS degree-granting institution.
  • Must be admitted into a STEM Ph.D. program at N.C. A&T to begin in Fall 2023.

Eligible STEM Ph.D. programs at N.C. A&T: 

  • Applied Science and Technology 

o   Eight Concentrations Available: (i) Applied Chemistry; (ii) Applied Physics; (iii) Atmospheric, Environmental and Energy Science; (iv) Bioscience; (v) Data Science and Analytics; (vi) Information Technology; (vii) Stem Education; and (viii) Technology Management 

  • Computational Data Science and Engineering 
  • Computer Science 
  • Electrical Engineering 
  • Industrial and Systems Engineering 
  • Mechanical Engineering 
  • Nanoengineering

Bridge to the Doctorate Application Process:

Bridge to the Doctorate applicants must complete a graduate admissions application to an eligible STEM Ph.D. program through our Graduate Admissions Portal, and must be admitted for Fall 2023. 

Additionally, applicants must complete an online Bridge to the Doctorate Application Form (link provided below). The application form requires the following items in PDF format:

  • Resume/CV
  • Personal Statement (up to 3 pages), focused on relevant academic background, research interests/plans, and future goals
  • Unofficial copy of transcript
  • One letter of recommendation (academic recommenders are strongly preferred)
