OUR Events and Reminders

  • (updated) OUR supported FWS RA applications will be open August 14 – September 29. Students must be eligible for financial aid to apply, and can apply with or without a mentor in mind. Make sure to complete the survey in its entirety or your application will not be considered. Review the site for requirements and additional information.
  • (updated) The OUR RA application will be open August 16 – August 23. Students must have a mentor to apply. OUR RAs are expected to work ten hours each week throughout the semester. Review the site for requirements and additional information.
  • The OUR will host an Open House during Wolfpack Welcome Week from 12:00-2:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday. All are welcome to stop by the OUR in Hill 2425 for information, office giveaways, light refreshments, and more!
  • (updated) Sidewalk Symposium will be hosted on September 26 from 11:00-12:30 at DH Hill Jr Library on the Hillsborough entrance side. Submissions will open August 21 and be due by September 12. You can find more information, as well as videos from last year’s event, on the site.
  • Meet with us! Students, faculty, staff, or anyone wishing to know more about undergraduate research can schedule an appointment with OUR staff or ambassadors. Students are able to schedule appointments with us via Navigate (instructions on the linked page).
  • Seminars and Proposal Help Sessions will start for the academic year mid September. Students can review the respective pages for more information (updates coming soon), as well as the OUR homepage, and in announcements.
  • (new) Are you a student who isn’t sure where to start your research journey? Check out our Getting Started tab, including ideas and abstract books on the Getting Started homepage. The abstract books are a great way to see what students have done, review potential mentors and projects, and/or be exposed to new disciplines and topics.
  • For faculty, staff, post-docs, and approved graduate students wishing to be mentors, let us know! If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. For graduate students, mentoring will be included in the Teaching Certificate offered by the Graduate School in the upcoming year; watch for more information!

Other Events and Reminders

  • NCUR 2024 will occur in April 2024 and will be hosted by California State University – Long Beach. Applications open September 15 and are due December 8; start considering your submission!
  • CUR invites submissions for Scholars Transforming Through Research (STR). A 6-month program for mentors and students to take part in professional development focusing around advocacy and communication, including interacting with stakeholders such as employers, elected officials, and funding agencies. Submissions are due by September 7; reach out to the OUR if you plan to submit.
  • The State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS) will be November 11 and hosted by Wingate University. We will share information as we learn more.
  • The Black Doctoral Network invites poster submissions for the Undergraduate Research Poster Competition during the October 19-21 conference. Find guidelines and submit here by August 25.
  • Rice University Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held on October 21-22. Find more information and apply by September 10 on the GCURS site.
  • The Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference for Undergraduate Research (MARCUS) will be held on November 4 at Randolph College. Submissions are due by October 6.
