OUR Events and Reminders

  • (new) You can now review and sign up for OUR Spring 2024 Seminars. Some information is still being finalized, but you can still view all relevant information, sign up to attend, and save it on your calendar. Seminars are open to all.
  • (new) Questions about undergraduate research and/or the OUR? Join us for our Winter Welcome Week open house event from 11:00-12:30 on Tuesday (1/9) and Wednesday (1/10) at the OUR (2425 DH Hill Jr Library).
  • (updated) The ACC Meeting of the Minds conference will take place April 5-7 at Notre Dame. Read more about the Meeting of the Minds and about applying on the OUR MotM page. All application materials are due January 22, 2024 by 11:59pm.
  • FWS Research Assistant applications for Spring 2024 are being accepted through January 15. Students can apply with or without a mentor in mind, and positions will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. If you are a current FWS RA with a yearlong appointment, you do not need to reapply.
  • The OUR is seeking student researchers who are interested in sharing their research experience with the NCSU community. If you are interested in being interviewed by the OUR to be featured as a “Student Story” on our website, please reach out to us at undergraduate-research@ncsu.edu.
  • 2024 NC State Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) have been posted. The list is subject to updates (check back!). Find non-NC State REUs on the NSF REU Database and Pathways to Science Database. For faculty/staff looking to “register” their program with the OUR, please email ceshowal@ncsu.edu.

  • • (new) The University of Utah invites applications for the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) for Summer 2024. Apply by January 24. Opportunities are available for a wide range of disciplines.
  • • (new) The Moore Undergraduate Apprenticeship Program (MURAP) at UNC-Chapel Hill is an REU for Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts students. Apply by February 1.
  • • (new) The American Psychological Association invites applications for the Summer Undergraduate Psychology Experience in Research Fellowship (APA SUPER). Apply by February 15.
  • • (new) The REU, Advancing High-Performance Computing Opportunities in Undergraduate Research at UW-Eau Claire to Meet Challenges of Multidisciplinary Computational Science, is accepting applications through March 1.
  • • (new) The NIH Summer Institute in Biostatistics & Data Science will be offered June 9-July 19. More info about the NCSU-DUKE SIBS program.
  • • (new) The University of Alabama at Birmingham welcomes applications for a variety of Clinical and Research Undergraduate Programs for Summer 2024.
  • • The Pre-McNair Program is accepting applications from first/second-year students through January 12, 2024. Attend a Pre-McNair Program info session, learn more about the McNair program, and/or apply for the Pre-McNair Program.
  • • The Comparative Medicine Institute welcomes applications for their CMI Undergraduate Research Fellowship. Applications are due by January 15, 2024. Find out more about CMI undergraduate research programs.
  • • The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences has opened applications for its Summer Undergraduate Research program focusing on cancer research, GW SPARC. Apply by February 1, 2024.
  • Dignity: An Undergraduate Human Rights Journal is seeking submissions through February 1, 2024 on research, from undergraduates in any discipline, that connects to human rights. Review info on Dignity submissions, including content types and guidelines.
  • • The University of Michigan welcomes applications for their Summer Research Opportunity Program (UM SROP) from students in the social sciences, physical or natural sciences, and engineering through February 5, 2024. Humanities students should also check out the Michigan Humanities Emerging Research Scholars Program (MICHHERS, applications due February 12).
  • • The Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies is offering an undergraduate summer internship opportunity in Summer 2024. Engage with the humanities and public history. Apply by February 15, 2024
  • • The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences invites applications for the NIEHS Scholars Connect Program through February 16, 2024. Apply, learn more about, and review virtual info sessions for the program on the Scholars Connect Program site.
  • • Gallaudet University seeks applications from students for the Accessible and Inclusive Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (AIBIDS) summer research program. Applications are due by April 1, 2024.
  • • Arcadia Abroad provides research abroad opportunities. View current 2024 research abroad projects and read more on the Arcadia Abroad STEM site. Application review begins in January! Check out Intern Philly as well for business, humanities, law, art, and more opportunities.
  • Opportunities to Present or Listen
  • • The Stanford Research Conference will take place April 5-7, 2024. The deadline for undergraduates to submit to the SRC is January 15.
  • • The Council on Undergraduate Research’s Trimmer fund Award is for arts and humanities students to receive funding to present research at professional meetings (conferences, etc.). Funds of up to $1,000 are for events between January 1, 2024-December 31, 2024. Applications are due January 15, 2024.
  • • The NC State Make-A-Thon will be held January 26-28. Register by January 18. This opportunity includes “collaborating in cross-disciplinary teams to research, design, and prototype solutions to a sustainability challenge.”
