Laura Colmenarejo Helps Steer Triangle Lectures in Combinatorics

The Triangle Lectures in Combinatorics (TLC) conference took place on November 1st at Duke University with more than 70 participants from the Southeast. The list of outstanding speakers included Jacob Fox (Stanford University), Igor Pak (UCLA), Shubhangi Saraf (University of Toronto), Richard Stanley (MIT, emeritus). The talk by Shubhangi Saraf on ”The complexity of factors of polynomials” highlighted the contributions of our colleague Erich Kaltofen.

There was a large participation from our department, including undergrad and grad students and faculty, and poster presentations by Anna Shapiro and Nutan Nepal. As part of this event and supported by the Algebra and Combinatorics seminar, Richard Stanley visited our department on October 31st and met with our graduate students for coffee and pastries in the morning and with our undergraduate students in the afternoon.

The TLC lecture series is a biannual one-day conference held in and around the Research Triangle region of North Carolina since Spring 2010. We invite four outstanding speakers from around the country to speak about the most exciting and significant recent developments in combinatorics. The TLC aims to enhance the combinatorial research community in the Southeast by fostering collaboration and interaction among researchers, particularly junior researchers and those who may feel isolated. Laura Colmenarejo has been part of the steering committee since Spring 2022 and co-organizer of many of the editions since then. The TLC lecture series is currently funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
