Time Sensitive: Opportunity for Undergraduates to Present at the 2026 AMS Spring Southeastern Sectional Meeting at Georgia Southern University-Armstrong Campus, Savannah, GA

The 2026 AMS Spring Southeastern Sectional Meeting (March 28-29) is taking place at Georgia Southern University-Armstrong Campus, Savannah, GA. They have designed a Special Session entitled: Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics Research. As the name suggests, this session is aimed at highlighting the undergraduate research being conducted throughout the Southeastern region. It will also introduce students to the American Mathematical Society (AMS), encourage them to become active and begin networking.

The students will need to register and submit their abstract no later than February 3, 2026 to the AMS page.

During this session, undergraduate students are encouraged to give a 10 – 15 minute talk highlighting any past or on-going research. In addition to the opportunity to present, students will have the advantage of:

• Networking with others within the fields of mathematics and statistics,
• Being inspired by AMS Sectional Meeting Invited Talks,
• Being exposed to possible post-graduation opportunities, and
• Being able to attend other special sessions to explore advanced topics in different fields of mathematics and statistics.

Question: Who is qualified to apply for the opportunity to present at this Special Session of the 2026 AMS Spring Sectional Meeting?

Any undergraduate student enrolled in a college or university within the Southeastern Region of the United States (as designated by AMS) who is conducting research under the advisement of a faculty advisor is eligible to apply.

What needs to be done to apply?

Faculty advisors:

• Submit the names of qualified undergraduate students, whose research is being done under your supervision, to the organizers of this Special Session at:  [email protected].Note: abstracts submitted by students without a faculty recommendation by their advisor will not be selected.
• Ask your student to submit their abstracts no later than February 3, 2026.
• Please don’t forget to personally register so that you can support your undergraduate student and enjoy the Sectional Meeting Invited Talks and special sessions.

Undergraduate students:
