Michael Ruddy, NC State, What is Inquiry-Based Learning?
February 22, 2018 | 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST
There is an increased interest in alternatives to the traditional lecture-based instruction in math courses. Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) is a teaching philosophy that challenges students to think more like mathematicians by posing questions rather than presenting established facts. In this talk, I will start by introducing some of the core tenets of IBL. I will then give some examples of IBL methods and discuss ways to effectively implement them. This talk is the first in a two-part series on finding ways for graduate instructors to implement IBL methods in their mathematics courses.
