Summer 2019 Research and Creative Works Proposals Now Being Accepted

The Office of Undergraduate Research through the Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) will provide undergraduate research and scholarship awards ranging in amounts up to $2,500* to undergraduate students for research projects for the Summer semesters. These awards are open to all disciplines for students pursuing undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activities. The number of awards given is determined by amount of funding available at the time the selection process occurs. Proposals are reviewed by faculty/post-docs within the home college of the mentor.

Requirements and Restrictions:

  • Students wishing to apply for the NC State Undergraduate Research Awards should:
    1. Have a mentor identified for the research,
    2. Prepare a research proposal,
    3. Complete a budget of expenses related to the research, as part of the online submission. SAMPLE-Budget

  • The research must be done during the Summer of 2019.
    • It is expected that the research be your focus over the summer; not academic course work. For that reason, students taking classes will not be eligible for living expenses and will be eligible for a maximum award of $1,000
  • Students must submit proposals online.
    • Awards will be given to both single student and team proposals.
      • If a team submits a proposal, a team leader should be selected to register and submit the proposal using the team proposal and team budget forms.
  • If you are working with humans – YOU MUST APPLY FOR UNIVERSITY IRB APPROVAL! (even if you are just doing surveys!)
  • If you are working with vertebrate animals – YOUR PROJECT MUST HAVE IACUC APPROVAL!
  • FUNDING
    • These awards do not cover stipends/salaries, nor stipends/salaries to participants of research survey’s or studies.
