Local Modeling Competition for Undergraduates
Are you interested in solving real world problems using math and computation? Would you like to research tangible problems? Do you want to win prizes? Then join us to learn more about IM2C: Intercollegiate Math Modeling Challenge!
In this contest, you will work in teams of three students to solve a real-world problem using mathematical and computational modeling. For a weekend (Nov. 14-16th), you will work with your team to answer questions such as how to predict the winner of a basketball game or how to reduce the spread of an invasive species. This year, teams from NC State, Duke, UNC, Brown, Ohio State, and Michigan will all participate in the challenge.
In the past, students have used their problem-solving experiences in these challenges as examples for job interviews and graduate school applications. This competition is also good practice if you plan to compete in the international math modeling competition (MCM/ICM).
Join us to an information session on Tuesday, October 28th (at 6pm) in SAS 3282 to learn more. Pizza will be served! To have an idea of the attendance, it would help if you could RSVP for the information session here: https://forms.gle/nrS5qAsFuWwmZTRV9.
