Program Description

This is a 10-week, interdisciplinary program with teams made up of students from the University of Tennessee and North Carolina State University (maximum participation is 20 students). Students will work across campuses to develop real world solutions to expand recycling programs within college athletics which can then be rolled out at different universities across athletics conferences.

Eastman Action Plan

Eastman will invite a selected group of students to their headquarters for a program kick off weekend where students will work on this situation and organize work streams. An Eastman point person will be available throughout the program for guidance and check-ins. The end result will be a Recycling Playbook and a Virtual Report Out Presentation.

Situation Statement

You are a staff member at a university. The university is ready to take their sustainability efforts at sporting events to the next level! You have received approval from the university to increase recycling efforts and become a national sustainability leader, but they are looking to you to figure out a playbook for rolling out this new effort across the athletic department.

Goal of solution

Provide a how-to guide for starting and scaling recycling efforts across the athletics department from practices to game day. The guide will need to take into consideration the multifaceted components of sustainability.
